HISTORY ONSITE ( Memorabilia of the past)

 SPANISH-ERA CANNONS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Heritage Cannons in Baluarte
Philippines was once colonized by the Spaniards for almost 400 years. According to history, Ferdinand Magellan was the first western man who discover the Philippines and brought Christianity in the country. But he was defeated by the leadership of Lapulapu, so he was not able to return to Spain thus the Victoria (smaller ship) was the only ship to return to Spain.

Spanish era stared when Miguel López  de Legazpi finally landed in the Philippines and colonize almost the whole of it. Luckily, the Spaniards did not penetrate inside Mindanao.

This cannons are the ones used in the war between Philippines and Spain, they are made out of bronze and iron. These cannons can also be seen in Fort Santiago, Intramuros but they are not as artistic as the ones in this photo.
